By the time the Sex Pistols recorded “Silly Thing,” the single they released on March 30, 1979, they were basically a duo of Cook and Jones, but it isn’t bad by… many other bands’ standards. Here’s the video.
Magazine’s “Rhythm of Cruelty” single was released March 30, 1979.
The Monks’ “Nice Legs” single was released March 26, 1979. (They are not the great ’60s Monks—this was a couple of folks from the Strawbs, jumping on the punk bandwagon.) Here they are playing it on TV that year.

X-Ray Spex released their final single, “Highly Inflammable,” on March 15, 1979. Its B-side was “Warrior in Woolworth’s,” which had been an album track in 1978, but I figured it’d be more fun to have a live clip than a close-up of the album sleeve. So here they are playing “Warrior” on TV in 1978.
Chrome’s Half Machine Lip Moves was released March 15, 1979. Here’s one of its highlights, “Abstract Nympho.”
Sham 69’s “Questions and Answers” single came out on March 14, 1979. Here’s a live TV performance from that year.
The Plasmatics’ debut single, “Butcher Baby,” came out on their own label on March 14, 1979. Here’s the original video for it, complete with chainsaw and toplessness!
Spizzoil’s “Cold City” single was released on March 13, 1979.
Duffo’s “Give Me Back My Brain” was released March 12, 1979. Here’s somebody’s homemade video for it.

Hi-Fi’s one and only Peel session was broadcast March 7, 1979. Mr. Obscure has very kindly made the whole thing available, with a great deal of background information on the band.
Squeeze’s “Cool for Cats” single was released on March 7, 1979. Here they are playing it on TV that year! If you want to skip the moderately horrifying intro, the song itself starts at 1:35.
The Buzzcocks’ seventh single, “Everybody’s Happy Nowadays,” was released on March 7, 1979. Here’s a TV performance (lip-synching, I think) from that year.
The Pop Group’s debut single “She Is Beyond Good and Evil” was released March 6, 1979. I didn’t even realize there had been a video.

The Electric Eels’ “Agitated” single was released on March 3, 1979 (although it was recorded four years earlier). This is… not the official video for it. But it’s cute.
The Jam’s “Strange Town” single was released March 2, 1979.
The Teardrop Explodes’ debut single, “Sleeping Gas,” was released on or about March 2, 1979.
